Being an Auntie and Educator
Today, 10th May 2021 is six years of being in the Inspiring The Futures having reached over 4,000 students from Early Years to Sixth Form. This is incredible and the motivation behind this began with wanting to promote the arts in education as many cuts have been made here in the U.K. to arts subjects, an artist called ‘Bob and Roberta Smith’ raised a campaign party the ‘Art Party’ and ‘All Schools Should be At Schools’ knowing how vital arts were in my school years it motivates me to fight for children’s rights for arts education.
I learned about the ITF when at Marie Claire Magazine’s At Work Live event at the BAFTAs hall where Miriam Gonzalez Durantez made a keynote presentation about the Inspiring The Futures organisation.
What truly engaged me regarding understanding children is the care and love and forgiveness I gave to all those children I grew up at school, including my sister; integral to that was my role as a girlguiding leader and being an auntie.
The joy of being an auntie is just so fulfilling bringing out the best and positives of every child I meet is what fills me with gratitude and hope for our future, children are the future adults and their childhood needs to be nurtured and fun. Prioritising our fun and joy in children and ourselves instead of acting like a harsh ‘Mum’ is what children truly need, instead of expecting our children to be good, we need to act on how we believe our children will become instead of “you always do that” or “I know you” a child becomes familiar with put-downs and low expectations, whereas if we expect our children to have positive affirmations are more likely to be happier and fulfilled growing up and beyond.
Be very careful and be happy! Gracie looks amazing so grown up, I hope that she remembers me and I hope that she knows she is always in my thoughts.
