Bored? you bored they're frustrated?... make it ‘Fun Stuff!’

Yes those everyday sort of things that we find boring are a way to refresh our understanding as so much changes happen all the time!

Drinking up from a cup - always a landmark way to see the positive hand to eye co-ordination development, just loved it when Gracie go this. Her Mum wanted her to end use of sippy-cups for babies so I did my best as Auntie to support that task. Gracie loved to try adults cups so I made sure that after we had gone out that I said to her the goal of the day, see how she manages without her sippy-cups and bottles of fruit juice. It was amazing to see her excitement because I was excited, that’s the key thing is you have more control over your child/children’s development as you think, they pick up on your doubt, so give them faith, fun and encouragement.

On our trip to the coffee shop I made sure that after our adventure in the art gallery we had to go for something to drink. Now there are paper straws it was vital that she learned how to put the straw in her cup of water, it was just water! And she almost got it one time so I helped her out by guiding her hand via the straw so her hand to eye co-ordination matched her physical practice, that is she learned how to do it by me helping her practice, I had every faith she will do it and can do it she just needed my focus to enable her focus.

And then the next trip she managed it! Without my help and I celebrated with her with a high-five and an applause which she loved. She felt proud and I felt proud.

So the three key takeaways are:

Faith in their ability to learn and eventually achieve

Fun no pressure it’s amazing to see progress

Encouragement create opportunities to experiment and learn, the ability to have patience and allow mistakes and progress; because we succeed and learn from what we first fail at!
